The song “Dokdo is Korea Land,” resounding in the languages of each countries, is attracting attention on YouTube.
There have been a set of YouTube videos where non-Koreans participate in singing the lyrics to “Dokdo is Korea Land,” in not only in English and Spanish, but also in Chinese, French, Jamaican, Persian, Indonesian, Hebrews, and they’re gaining net-izens’ enthusiastic reactions.
After the first of the series, the English video, on the twentieth of last month, the second, Spanish video posted the next day, and the hits shot up to a number of thousands only within a week.
The video where a Latino male, who appears to be a college student, imitates idol singer’s dance and singing in Spanish, “Dokdo is Korea Land,” next to a fountain, induces the audience to smile and provokes a curiosity in “Dokdo,” and effortlessly promotes that Dokdo is a Korean land.
The ‘Singing Dokdo is Korea Land in Entire World’s Languages’ series with the title “Do you know Dokdo?” is created by the LA Korean-run advertisement and management company ‘Simple Touch’ and produced by producer Young Man Kang of YMK film.
To this day, a total of 12 languages of the series are on YouTube, but the creation is to be a total of 15 languages and twenty videos; following the completion, the creators plan to expand to other languages.
Simple Touch Entertainment’s Park Jung Heum director stated that “Through an advertised in New York Times and big and small special events, we claim “Dokdo is Korea Land,” but it is a difficult concept to touch everyday people.” And he said: “We planned the video creation of ‘Dokdo is Korea Land’ in the languages of the whole world as a means to raise an awareness of the people of the whole world.”
The non-Koreans who sing “Dokdo is Korea Land” in each language were chosen through an open audition, where were more than two hundreds who sent in videos to the first online audition, and after which, 50 among those passed onto the main audition. In the second audition performed off-line, a final fifteen persons were casted, and the creation of videos began. It is a video of 3 to 4 minutes length, but the individuals who participate in the film are said to have gone through rigorous preparation.
Producer Young Man Kang, who produces the videos, said that “Rather than making Dokdo known argumentative, I want to let it known in a fun way using the element of ‘entertainment.’ Through this, I hope to double the effort to increase the effect of promoting Dokdo to the people of the whole world.’”
After seeing this video, an organization in Korea is said to have sent invitations to visit Dokdo to all non-Korean participants of this project of making Dokdo known.
Park, Jung Heum Director said: “Aside from the languages of 15 nations, we plan to update the list by adding African languages, Mongolian, Hindi, Philippine languages, and have already announced the second audition to be in the middle of October,” and emphasized the plan to continue making the videos that make Dokdo known.
